Week 11 (Nov 17 – Nov 23) – Confess
Opening Question / Icebreaker:
- Have you ever served on jury duty? Or had to testify in a court case? What role does confession play in our legal system?
Pray Together
Read Romans 10:5-13 https://www.esv.org/Romans+10/
Observation & Interpretation Questions:
- Dig into this question - What does it mean to confess “Jesus is Lord?”
- How does confession tie in with belief?
- Look back to Romans 3:22-23. In that context, how does the phrase “there is no distinction” compare with its use here in 10:12?
- What does it mean in verse 13 to “call on the name of the Lord?”
Application Questions:
- What is one major way your confession of Christ as Lord has influenced your life?
- In the early church period, dominated by the Roman Empire, people would say that “Caesar is Lord” seeing him as a god. What are some gods that compete for your allegiance to Christ?
Closing Activity:
- Read Philippians 2:5-11 together with different group members each reading one verse.
Close in Prayer:
- Add in confession of Jesus as Lord to the closing prayer time.
