Small Group Questions, Spring 2026, Week 5

Week 5 (Feb. 8-15) – SERVICE

Opening Question / Icebreaker:

  • What did your parents want you to be when you grew up?  What career ambitions did you have at age 12?

Pray Together – ask God to bless your group, your time in His word, and your relationships.

Read Mark 10:32-45. https://www.esv.org/Mark+10/

Observation & Interpretation Questions:

  • Why would going to Jerusalem cause the disciples to be astonished and afraid?
  • What impresses you with Jesus’ resolve with the twelve apostles and with James & John?
  • What view of the kingdom are James & John clinging to?
  • How does Jesus use this uproar to convey new insights into the definition of greatness?
  • How does Jesus model service for them?  (see John 13 for example)

Application Questions:

  • How and why do we sometimes find ourselves desiring a better “seat” in God’s Kingdom?
  • How is Jesus’ emphasis on service difficult to live out?
  • How does Jesus’ life and service impact our view of relationships with others?
  • If your group members know each other well, have each group member share how they have seen another group member serving.

Close in Prayer:

  • Pray together – lift any praises or concerns of the group members up to God in prayer.
