Week 2 (Jan. 18-24) – Various Texts - Core Value of Worship
Opening Question / Icebreaker:
- When you hear the word worship, what comes to mind first – and why?
- Share with the group a recent, memorable worship experience.
Pray Together – ask God to bless your group, your time in His word, and your relationships.
Read John 4:19-26. https://www.esv.org/John+4/
Observation & Interpretation Questions:
- What does it mean to worship “in spirit” and “in truth”? How would you describe the relationship among those things?
- Jesus indicates that the place to worship does not matter. Why is that significant? Both in this conversation with the Samaritan woman and for us too?
Read Colossians 3:12-17. https://www.esv.org/Colossians+3/
- What are elements of worship that we find in this passage?
- How could this passage help explain “church” to someone who has never attended church?
Application Questions:
- What has shaped your understanding of worship more – Scripture, culture, or other people?
- How can you prepare your heart better to worship when the church gathers?
- In what ways can we participate more intentionally when the church gathers?
- What is one way that you can live out worship more faithfully throughout the week?
Close in Prayer:
- Pray together – lift any praises or concerns of the group members up to God in prayer.
