Observation & Interpretation Questions for 1:12-21:
- What event in Jesus’ life does Peter recall (vss. 16-18)? Read Matthew 17:1-13 for that account.
- If you were Peter, what other powerful stories of Jesus would come to mind testifying to his “majesty”?
- Why and how does Peter establish his own authority?
- Why and how does Peter defend the authority and inspiration of the prophets? What problem does this imply his readers may have had (vss. 20-21)?
- In your own words, how would you explain v. 21 and specifically Peter’s phrase, “carried along by the Holy Spirit?”
Application Questions:
- If a non-Christian asked you to “prove” the Scriptures are God’s Word, on what would you base your answer?
- How does that answer affect your habit of engaging God’s Word? Your lifestyle?
- What are some examples of how the authority of Scripture influences your behavior?
Close in Prayer:
- Pray together – lift any praises or concerns of the group members up to God in prayer.
