Small Group Questions - Fall 2025 - Week 11

Week 11 (Nov. 16– Nov. 22) – Jeremiah 6:16-26

Opening Question / Icebreaker:

  • When you were growing up, did you ever get separated from your parents where they thought you were lost?  Share about that.  Or have you ever been lost in the woods?  What did that experience feel like?

Pray Together – ask God to bless your group, your time in His word, and your relationships.

Read Jeremiah 6:16-26. https://www.esv.org/Jeremiah+6/

Observation & Interpretation Questions:

  • What were the “ancient paths” to Jeremiah’s audience in v. 16?  Who are the “watchmen” in v. 17?
  • Why are the “ancient paths” of v. 16 synonymous with “the good way” in that verse?  How will walking in “ancient paths” for the Israelites lead to rest for their souls?
  • What is God looking for from His people and what are they offering him instead (v. 20)?
  • God is giving his people a warning through the prophet Jeremiah. How do they respond to God’s warning in v. 24-26?
  • Read Matthew 7:12-13. What insight is gained from Jesus’ words considering Jeremiah 6:16?

Application Questions:

  • What do you think is God’s purpose in this warning to His people? What does that tell you about God’s character?
  • What are “ancient paths” for us as Christians?  Why is it important to “look for” ancient paths in our walk with Christ?
  • In addition to the New Testament, how can we connect to “ancient paths” of Christianity?
  • How does walking in “ancient paths” connect with Jesus who provides “rest for our souls?”

Close in Prayer:

  • Pray together – lift any praises or concerns of the group members up to God in prayer.
