Creative people can use common pieces of wood or plastic to build amazing structures. In the same way, God uses common folks to build his church. Thankfully, God doesn’t just toss us into a box and hope that we figure it out. He gifts us. God gives us—all of us—spiritual gifts and asks us to use them to build His Church. Join us as we discover what spiritual gifts are, consider which gifts we may have, and then start to put them to work for the sake of God’s Church.
At Bridgetown Church of Christ, we believe that each Christian is given at least one gift (1 Corinthians 12:7), the Holy Spirit determines who receives which gifts (1 Corinthians 12:11), each gift is equally valuable (1 Corinthians 12:21-26), we are to use our gifts to serve others for the benefit of the church (Romans 12:6-8; Ephesians 4:12), and that using our gifts will help us develop spiritual maturity (Ephesians 4:13).
SPIRITUAL GIFTS ASSESSMENT
We encourage you to ask God to help you determine your gifts and to study what God says about gifts in the Bible. Sometimes God may also use spiritual gift assessment tools to reveal His gifts. You can access an online gifts assessment here and read more about the gifts listed in Scripture here.
Remember, these tests do not yield guaranteed results. They can help you think more about your gifting, but the best way to discover your gift is by reading the Bible, listening to what Christian friends say when you serve, and jumping in! In other words, let this test be a help, but do not take it too seriously or forget that if God is presenting you with a need then he has likely already given you the tools to meet that need.
